Day 2

After Breakfast. Visit Bethany Beyond the Jordan; traditional site of Jesus baptism.

Jesus left Nazareth, until he reached Bethany beyond the Jordan and went to John for baptism. Jesus joined in the line of penitents asking for baptism, yet he was pure, free from all sin. He was the one who would say to the Jews, Who among you can provide evidence that I have committed a sin. John knew of Jesus from the revelation and inspiration of the Holy Spirit (John 1:32). John, however, objected to baptizing Jesus saying, I am the one that needs you to baptize me! However, upon Jesus continued insistence, John acquiesced and baptized Jesus in the Jordan River. Therefore, the water of the Jordan River became holy and all the waters that flow along the baptism site were purified, reviving the souls of people at every place and time.

As Jesus was coming out of the water, he saw the heavens open up and the Holy Spirit descending like a dove. He heard a voice from above say, You are my beloved son with whom I am well pleased. Then the Spirit took Jesus into the wilderness where he remained for forty days, and where Satan tempted him. In the wilderness, Jesus dwelt among the wild beasts, but the angels looked after him.

After Jesus came back from the wilderness to Bethany beyond the Jordan, He found John sitting with two of his students. When John saw Jesus, he said to his students, This is the Lamb of God who will take away the sin of the world. (John 1:29) Hearing this, the two students decided to follow Jesus and were in turn followed by three others, among them Peter.

Jesus carried the torch of faith from John the Baptist, the torch that had also been carried by Moses, Elijah and the other prophets. From Bethany beyond the Jordan Jesus declared the good news of God, saying, The Hour draws near and the Kingdom of God is at hand! So, repent and have faith in the good news of God! After returning to Jerusalem, a dispute arose between Jesus and the Jews during the festival of the renovation of the Temple. When this happened, Jesus fled back across the Jordan to Bethany where John was still baptizing. The people warmly received Jesus and many came to him from the surrounding towns and villages, from Salt, Amman, Madaba and Hisban. They brought their sick to him. He cured them, and many people came to believe in him. From Bethany beyond the Jordan, Jesus returned to Jerusalem only to have to flee again, this time to Ephraim (al-Tayyibah) near Ramallah. Later he returned to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and the events of his passion, death and resurrection would follow.

Then transfer to Dead Sea, one of the most dramatic places on the earth, which stunning natural environment equally matched by its powerful spiritual symbolism. The Bible variously calls in the Sea Of Arabah , The Salt Sea.Then enjoy shopping and back to your hotel for dinner and overnight

Day (3): Amman  – Mukawir – Um Al Rassas – Amman

Day 3

After breakfast, drive to Mukawir (Machaerus), the hilltop stronghold of Herod the Great. Upon Herods death, his son Herod Antipas inherited the fortress and it is from here that he ordered John the Baptist to be beheaded after Salomes fateful dance of the seven veils.

The  1st  Century  AD  Roman-Jewish  historian,  Josephus,  identifies  the  awe-inspiring  site  of  Machaerus

(modern-day Mukawir) as the palace/fort of Herod Antipas, who was the Roman-appointed ruler over the region during the life of Jesus Christ.

It was here, at this hilltop-fortified palace, overlooking the Dead Sea region and the distant hills of Palestine and Israel that Herod imprisoned and beheaded John the Baptist after Salomes fateful dance. He was beheaded after Salomes fateful dance Mathew 14:3-11.

Machaerus was also the scene of a Roman siege during the first Jewish revolt against Rome.

Mukawir is also one of the designated pilgrimage sites for the year 2000. The top of Mount Mukawir overlooks a breathtaking view of the Dead Sea, especially at sunset. The summit can be reached after climbing a winding staircase up to the mountain.

See: Mark 6:16-29 , Mathew 14:03-12

Day (6):– Amman – Um Qais – Mar Elias –Jabouc River – Amman

Day 6

After breakfast, drive to Gedara is connected with one of the miracles of Jesus usually referred to as Casting of the Demons or the Gadarean Swine

The importance of this miracle actually does not come from being greatest miracle of Jesus (he raising the dead would be more important), but comes from the testimony of the man, or men, with Demons in him/them to Jesus when Demons said:  what do you want with us, Son Of God? They shouted have you come here to torture us before the appointed time. (Matt. 8:29)

What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me! (Mark5:7) Gedara was one of the most brilliant ancient Greco-Roman cities of the Decapolis and according to the Bible, the spot where Jesus cast out the Devil from two mad men into a herd of pigs.

See : Matthew 8:28-34

Associated with the Prophet Elijah, Tall Mar Elias is very close to the ruins of a village known as Listib. It is believed that this place was formerly Tishbi, the home of Elijah, a native of Gilias in Tranjordan (2 Kings 17: I). The fact that this is a religious site is substantiated by the two churches that were built on the Tall (hilltop) at the end of the Byzantine period.

Mary and his disciples passed through and rested in a nearby cave.

Back to your hotel in Amman for dinner and overnight

Day (7): Amman  – Mt. Nebo – Dead Sea – Amman

Day 7

After breakfast, drive to Mount Nebo and wonder at the view where Moses looked across to the promised Land and later died and was buried.

According to the final chapter of the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses ascended Mount Nebo to view the Land of Canaan, which God had said he would not enter; he died in Moab.

According to Christian tradition, Moses was buried on the mountain, although his place of burial is not specified (Deuteronomy 34:6). Some Islamic traditions also stated the same, [although there is a grave of Moses located at Maqam El-Nabi Musa, 11 km (6.8 mi) south of Jericho and 20 km (12 mi) east of Jerusalem in the Judean wilderness.

According to 2 Maccabees (2:47), the prophet Jeremiah hid the tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant in acave there.. On March 20, 2000, Pope John Paul II visited the site during his pilgrimage to the Holy Land. During his visit he planted an olive tree beside the Byzantine chapel as a symbol of peace. Pope Benedict XVI visited the site in 2009, gave a speech, and looked out from the top of the mountain in the direction of Jerusalem.

A serpentine cross sculpture (the Brazen Serpent Monument) atop Mount Nebo was created by Italian artist Giovanni Fantoni. It is symbolic of the bronze serpent created by Moses in the wilderness (Numbers 21:49) and the cross upon which Jesus was crucified (John 3:14).
